We were in the car on the way to take Ethan to his class. Emily, for some unknown reason, has ALWAYS been obsessed with pregnancy and babies. She is always asking me questions (especially when someone we know is pregnant). She can't wait for the day she can "get married and go to the hospital to get [her] baby". (Seriously, she tells me it alllll the time....we have to keep reminding her of where she needs to get married first). Anyway, back to the story. So we are in the car and she was asking a few questions about pregnancy. I thought the conversation was over with when she said "Mom, I remember what it was like to be in your tummy." I was completely taken back and asked "What was it like?" I guess I was expecting some sweet, thoughtful response. Instead she says "It was (brief pause) weird." I am not sure where she got that but I was laughing SOOOO hard. I finally stopped and she then said "And kinda funny". So there you have it. If you have EVER wondered what it was like to be in your mommy's tummy....it was "weird and kinda funny". (that was the memory by the way)
Dum Dum's
A while ago Trent and I were considering potty training Ethan (he is 3 now). Ethan is sooooooooo (with about 3 thousand extra "o"s) much different than Emily. He isn't bribed. (Well until recently). The ONLY thing that would get him to sit (yes, just sit) on the toilet was Dairy Queen ice cream (and only Dairy Queen). It worked too. He started just by sitting and eventually actually went poop (I know maybe TMI....if so, you might not want to finish this story). Sadly, after about 2 weeks of going to DQ everyday, our checkbook said no more. Once the DQ went, the pooping did too. He would say things like "I love diapers." and "Me only go potty in diapers". It was soooo frustrating. Well, we had a break through this week thanks to Dum Dum's. Trent and I went to dinner and instead of mints at the desk where you pay, there were Dum Dum suckers. I grabbed two, one for each kid, and then proceeded to forget about them. A few days later, Emily found them in my purse (I am still trying to figure out why she had it, but that is a different story) and asked if she and her brother could have one. I said only if they go poop (I know. I warned you....TMI!!). But a miracle happened.....they BOTH went poop (Emily has constipation issues and has since she was born). I was like, "that was wayyy to easy. Is that all it takes? a Dum Dum?!?!?!" After Ethan completed his task (pooping) I asked him if I were to buy more Dum Dum's if he would go potty and wear undies. IT WORKED!!! I am not going to say he is potty trained because we are WAYYYYYYYY away from that, but at least I found something that will get him to go to the bathroom and wear underwear. I am just praying that there are enough different flavors to keep him excited about them for a while :)!!!
Olive fingers?!?!?!?
Ethan had another ear infection. Poor guy!!! When he gets ear infections we have to put drops in his ears. To say he hates it is an understatement. I asked our Dr. if there is anything I can do to make it not hurt him as much and the Dr. said to put them in while he was sleeping. Ethan figured it out VERY quickly and started sleeping with his hand over his ear. Trent and I soon figured out we had to be silent and not touch him, his blanket, his bed, or any toys while putting his drops in. We also stopped counting and just hope we get enough in. I feel so bad after putting them in his ears that if he wakes up at all and asks, he usually doesn't have to beg to much to sleep in our bed (at least until Trent goes to bed). Here he is snuggling Emily's bear after getting drops.
Every kid has their trigger! You just have to figure it out. It changes so quickly too!
ReplyDeleteFor Olivia it was our bedtime struggle. If they didn't go to bed well the night before, the next morning she couldn't wear a dress. Silly, but effective!
Good luck with the potty training. It's extra hard for them to figure out if they are sick all the time, I think. =)
